Every interns worst nightmare: making a stupid mistake. Little mistakes are OK. You know, the ones that no one can really blame you for because you have no experience and you wouldn't really know otherwise. But then there are... OTHER mistakes. Mistakes that have nothing to do with your experience, but everything to do with your common sense. Front desk etiquette is usually common sense. Using a stapler is common sense. What mistake did I may you ask? Seeing as I'm writing this directly after said mistake I am much to embarrassed to reveal. Maybe one day I will look back on this and laugh....or cringe. These are the times I wish we still had the 'Mad Men' culture. I could easily flirt my way out of a mistake with a little Joan sashay down the hall. But then again...
Internships are supposed to teach you something. You're supposed to learn what to do and what not to do in reference to your career. The ups and downs are something you need to see when interning anywhere. This is how you learn whether or not that is the career for you.
Its hard to decide. As a child you've changed your mind eight million times on what you want to be when you grow up. Before you know it you're in college and being told to pick a major. What if you pick wrong? What if you change it so many times and you're still not happy? I think its very rare that most people choose their perfect career. Sometimes you're barely holding your head above water. Other times you realize you've made a mistake in career choice but are too far in to get out now. Even more often you excel in your career but curse your life every morning you wake up and every night you lay your head on that pillow.
Why do we work? Why does career mean so much? How does one find a career in which work actually satisfies oneself? No one wants a "job". A "job" implies that your working for money. A career implies that one is doing what one loves is lucky enough to get paid for it.
I haven't discovered the answer to this yet. But once I do I'll be sure to let you all know. Till then we'll continue on this intern journey together.

Time for a Fall update
It has definitely been a hot minute since I've blogged, but alas that is the life of a college student with two jobs, full time school, and internships. Work hard now so I can play later... right? Well, my fashion bug has been re-ignited since job #2 is at the one and only Saks Fifth Avenue. How can you not love fashion if you work there?
With fall now upon us its time to introduce a few of my faves. Now that I'm knocking on the door of the professional world my wardrobe has been inundated with blazers. For some reason I have a million but only in three colors: black, white, and cream. I just added to the collection with a purchase from Forever 21. Here are a few ways I'd put a blazer into my professional wardrobe:
** To make the dress more office appropriate try a pair of opaque tights to cover up all that leg, and keep that heel sensible and close toed.

Best Makeup Products of the Summer
I've made quite a few makeup purchases this past month and am so excited to share all of the lovely products I've acquired. To see a makeup tutorial using these products take a look at the video posted below.
I finally purchased the NAKED 2 palette. And I love it! There are a great blend of neutral golds, bronzes, and browns in the palette. These are perfect for day or night. The Naked palette also comes with a big mirror and a double sided brush with a shadow brush on one end and a fluffy blending brush on the other.
2. I've also started filling in my eyebrows which is awesome because so many people have asked me if I've gotten them waxed due to the clean shape they now have. The product I currently use is called Revlon Brow Fantasy in Dark Brown. This product is also double sided. One side includes the pencil and the other contains a gel to manage any stray hairs. NEVER use black to fill in eye brows its completely unnatural.
3. The third product I'm loving is ELF's blush in the color Pink Passion. As a woman of color finding blushes that are pigmented enough to even show up on me are difficult unless they cost a gazillion dollars. Elf is not only pigmented but extremely affordable. I don't believe I've ever spent more then $6 on an Elf product. This is also the first time I've ever really decided to wear blush simply because its the first time I've ever found a blush whose true color will show up on my skin.
4. Another Elf product I can't stop using is their High definition Powder. Its a white translucent powder that really seals in your makeup. I choose to use it strictly under my eyes and on the bridge of my nose: both areas of which I apply concealer. If I were to use it all over my face it would make me look grey...ew. But for people who are lighter its great for all over the face and gives a "soft focus" finish to your makeup.
5. Amazing Cosmetics hands down has the best concealer I've ever tried. And their shade Deep is actually my shade! Too many makeup lines carry a limited amount of concealer shades 90 percent of them no where close to being dark enough for myself or other women. A little goes a long way in this case. The smallest amount is needed to get complete and full coverage
6. All of that product can make you look a little lifeless and that is when its time to break out the NYX Tango with Bronzing Powder. I absolutely love this because most bronzers are so light I look grey but this bronzer taps into the gold warm glow I need on my face not the "brown" which is too light brown for me.
7. And lastly, Elf's Mist and Set Spray is "da bomb dot com" as Nitraab would say (youtube reference). It is simply a hair spray for your face. It seals in your makeup so it last longer. No melting in this hot heat!

Best Hair Product for Damaged and Overprocessed Hair
A lot of people think that in order for a shampoo to be good it needs to be expensive or from a salon. I myself have used salon shampoos with varying degrees of success. However, when your hair is damaged or over processed as mine recently has become, the shampoo and conditioner you use is of utmost importance. I have been on a search for a drugstore shampoo that actually works. My current favorite is a cocktail of Nexxus products. Nexxus would be considered a salon brand to some and it definitely is on the more expensive side ranging from $5.00 to $20 + depending on size. I have been using three of their products with amazing results.
1. Nexxus Therappe Ultimate Moisture Shampoo.
This shampoo is absolutely amazing. As an African American its very important to use a moisturizing shampoo because most shampoos remove all the necessary oils out of the hair leaving it dry and brittle.
2. Nexxus Keraphix Restorative Strength Conditioner
This conditioner is amazing! It is created to "fortify and protect dry, brittle, damaged hair." It has come in a wave of Keratin infused products, that really helps restore over processed and damaged hair such as mine. After using this conditioner and letting it sit for 15 minutes under the dryer as a deep condition. My hair was completely changed! The frizz I have spent months trying to make disappear was gone in one wash!
3. Nexxus Humectress Luxe Ultimate Moisture Leave-In Spray
A leave-in should be a mandatory staple in every ones hair care routine. It helps to protect and repair the hair after a blow dry or a session under the hooded dryer. It also allows for the hair to have some extra strength against the elements such as rain and humidity.
All three of these products together work amazingly well for me and are worth the cost. I absolutely love them! Depending on what your hair needs are exactly will determine which line you use.

The Old Debate: Should I or Shouldn't I Dress Up for Class?
It's that time of year again! A new crop of freshmen are entering colleges across the nation. I remember when I was a college freshmen my fashion evolution began there. Here are some tips I have for incoming college students on how to dress for class.
1. A lot of people adopt an attitude of "oh I'm just going to class"...Um and? My personal belief is dress for school because its a breeding ground for future employment. You wouldn't show up to work in pajamas would you?

3. Do dress sensibly. Seven inch stilettos on a 2,000 acre campus are usually not the most practical. I always get a good laugh at girls limping about (wedges are totally fine however).
4. Sundresses are my favorite type of clothing to wear on campus. Especially when its sweltering hot during the August and September months. Keep a cute cardigan on hand for cooler days and air conditioned classes.

5. Loose and flowing seems to be the trend around campuses and fortunately stores such as American Eagle support that. Also, for good finds check out your local Plato's Closet.
6. Don't use your English class to make a fashion statement. No one wants to be boring but keep it somewhat normal for class. Its not the time or place to debut your new hooker boots or night club makeup.
7. Lastly, just plain looking good will make you feel good. Feeling good leads to doing well in school... Everyone knows that!
Here are some suggestions (keep in mind these are for the warm August and September months):
